ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I started really studying and learning about painting when I retired in 1998. Before that I just dabbled in a lot of mediums while I raised my family and when I was a youngster myself.
Painting stirs up wonderful feelings in me about the world we live in.. The word painting itself makes me feel adventurous. When my painting is going well I feel like one of the old masters and hope nobody will notice! The multitude of colors that come from red, yellow and blue will forever fascinate me. I can see depth and richness in all of them.
As I'm starting a new painting I think I have made most of the basic decisions. The composition, color pallet, color relationships and values. Further into the painting I am faced with new challenges and need to make some new decisions to reach the desired outcome.
I was taking a class not long ago and was asked what my favorite art tool was. I had to say a pencil. That is where it all began with me. Today I enjoy all the mediums but just sitting down and sketching I think is my favorite. Oil painting is my medium of choice. It is something I control be it good, bad or so-so, I made the decisions on the outcome of the work. When a painting turns out well I have a real sense of satisfaction when I sign it. When it is not going too well and I know I have done my best ( I have a lot of these) I'll sign it and move on.
My goal is to keep learning and painting as long as I'm able. Thank you for taking the time
to read this.
